The THIRD TEST starting on December 18th will nowbe played in Galle. The Galle esplanade is now a patch of lush green. The rains in last few months did a world of good for the newly seeded turf and pitch, although it delayed construction work MOST OF THE BUILDINGS ARE NOW COMPLETE AND ARE BEING WHITE WASHED AND PAINTED AND EVERY THING SEEM TO FIT IN LIKE SOME GIANT JIGSAW. The surroundings are being spruced up, the standing galleries are being filled up. Although there was much opposition to the new buildings shutting out the view of the fortress from the main road on bustand side, the bird wing shaped curvature of the building site would give a splendid view of the Dutch Fort's Ramparts to the Cricket fans sitting in the new pavillions and to the millions world wide on TV. |
